Biggest morning stroll

Pull on your walking shoes and take a stroll around Castlemaine’s beautiful botanical gardens for a very good cause this Thursday.
Castlemaine District Community Health nurse Bronwyn Grieve said that to coincide with Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea they were holding the special morning walk at the gardens with all funds raised to fund research, prevention and support services for those affected by cancer.
Bronwyn said Thursday’s walk would happen from 9-11am and all were invited to get along and participate.
Intending walkers can simply attend at the gardens tea rooms from 9am where morning tea will include home-cooked goodies, Bronwyn said.
“A donation is appreciated,” the community health nurse said.
“Every dollar raised helps support those impacted by cancer.
“I am seeing this as a fun and rewarding way to support the event and help save lives, with more than a million people sipping their way through morning teas at work, school, home and in the community.
“A number of people in our community – including volunteers who work with CDCH – are affected by cancer.
“This is our way of showing our support for them.”
Statistics show that one in two people will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85.
Information about local support services will also be available at Thursday’s event, which is just one of many community Biggest Morning Tea events taking place in and around Castlemaine.
