Central Highlands earn shield

Central Highlands has defeated long-time rivals Central in the annual Millar-Deason Shield bowls event.
Played in ideal conditions at Kyneton on Sunday, January 10, the match between the neighbouring bowls divisions was both competitive and convivial.
Next season two Central clubs, Kilmore and Broadford, are expected to cross to the CHBD, and Wallan’s future geographic bowls status is still undecided.
Central now comprises eight clubs, and this may have been the last time the Millar-Deason fixture takes place. It dates back to 1991.
“It was a great effort by our representatives today,” stated CHBD secretary Ian Guymer after Central Highlands won overall by 19 shots – 152 to 133.
CHBD president Ian Ball was also pleased, thanking all the Central Highlands players for making themselves available for selection, wishing Central well for the future, and thanking the Kyneton club for hosting the event.
Both divisions had seven fours competing, with the CHBD winning four rinks, losing two, and tying one.

Women: M. Ivory, H. Kennedy, V. Noble, B. Holmes 20 d W. Atkins 15; J. Butterley, H. Kennedy, H. Cyrulo, T. Odgers 20 tied with H. Flint 20;
S. Holmes, M. Cameron, R. Kellaart, L. Ball 14 lost to S. Hall 22.
Central Highlands selectors now have the task of choosing the lineups to contest the Region and Complete Bowls Shields series at Maryborough Highlands Bowling Club on Sunday, January 31.
