Forest friends unite

Forty members of Wombat Forestcare made the trip down to Parliament House last Thursday to take part in the Nature For Life Rally.
They joined with 45 environmental and community groups from across the state who attended the rally to call for urgent and bold action from the Andrews government to guarantee a secure future for Victoria’s unique wildlife and special natural places.
A decision will be made by the government early next year to either reclassify the Wombat Forest as a national park, or leave it as a state forest.
If it becomes a national park endangered species such as the greater glider and powerful owl will be protected from logging.
Vic Forests intends to resume logging in the Wombat if it is not reclassified as national park.
Maps produced this November as part of the government’s Forest Transition Package show areas throughout the Wombat Forest open for logging until 2030.
