Hawks sign top players

Woodend-Hesket has signed up three of its outstanding footballers for next season.
The Hawks just missed out on making the Riddell League finals this season, and hope to improve further in 2019 with a strong contingent of teenage players on the list.
At the club’s recent annual meeting Paul Podbury, a club stalwart on and off the field and club person of the year in 2018, was elected as the Hawks new president.
Podbury and his committee are pleased that three of the club’s “big guns” have re-committed for next season.
They are captain and dual best and fairest Daniel Toman, runner-up best and fairest Alastair Rae, and top goal-kicker Tom Gawthrop.
Toman and Gawthrop were star juniors at Woodend while Rae was recruited last season from the Essendon District.
The Hawks will soon be holding netball trails for past, existing and new players, building on the momentum from last season.
Head netball coach Wendy Roberts has been re-appointed, and will be in charge of the club’s A and B-grade teams.
Anne-Louise Lindner steps up from taking the Under 19s to the grand final to be responsible for the C-graders, and Kellie Duff takes over the Under 19s.
The strong emphasis on developing young players in both netball and football at the Gilbert Gordon Reserve is certainly continuing and new players will be very welcome for the 2019 season.
Macedon Football Netball Club will hold its annual meeting at the club’s social rooms at Tony Clarke Reserve tomorrow (Wednesday) evening.
