Show tickets up for grabs

Would you usually be busy preparing your craft or your cattle, selecting a fine wool fleece or cultivating your prize-winning rhubarb to enter in the Kyneton Show? Does your family count down to the carnival or is Show Day your favourite?
With COVID restrictions forcing the rescheduling of this month’s show, the Kyneton Agricultural Society is giving away six two-day family passes to the 2021 Kyneton Show.
“All you have to do to go in the draw to win, is submit a photo or a few lines about what you love about the Kyneton Show,” Kyneton Agricultural Society secretary Josephine Rutledge said.
“We’d love see photos of you posing with what you would have entered, whether you’ve cooked a great chocolate cake, you’ve got a weird-shaped vegetable or favourite backyard chook.
“You could take a photo of your art or craft or your animals – perhaps your child and pet practising for the pet parade.
“We’re not looking for the best photos or even prize-winning entries. It’s just a fun way of celebrating every aspect of the show and reminding everyone that we will be back in 2021.”
The show has been run since 1858. Until the pandemic, the show had been held every year, apart from during World War II when the showgrounds were occupied by the military.
Many families have taken up new hobbies during the long winter lockdown – making jams or trying new recipes, baking sourdough bread … there’s even been a bit of a crumpet-making competition in the district too!
“You might want to show off the kids’ craft, the quilt you’ve been working on all winter or provide a sneak peek of your needlework or the knitting you’ve already finished ready to enter next year,” Ms Rutledge said.
“We’d also love to know what you love most about the show or your ideas to help us make the 160th show the biggest and best yet.”
She hopes the competition will showcase the community connection and generational collaboration that has helped the district navigate the COVID crisis.
“We’re asking younger people to think about older neighbours or their grandparents, who might have a great veggie garden, or they’re famous in the family for their fruitcake or jam, or they’re a fabulous knitter, and entering a photo for them.
“It’s a stunning spring so we know many gardens have never looked better and many people will be thinking they have prize-winning produce or a champion rose in their gardens this year.”
Post your entry on Facebook or Instagram or email to kynetonshow@gmail.com, remembering to use the #loveKynetonShow hashtag to be eligible to win.
The competition runs until what would have been Show Day this year, closing 5pm Saturday, November 21. The next Kyneton Show will be on November 19-20, 2021.
