Sweet treat for romance lovers

Romsey author Sarah Fiddelaers has penned a new romance in a collection of four unforgettable stories of love, hope, humour and faith.
Set in the first half of the 20th century, Easter Promises features strong women overcoming obstacles of their time to pursue their dreams and, of course, find love.
The collaboration showcases Fiddelaers’ story entitled Easter Dawn as well as stories by three other authors, including fellow Richel longlistee, Ava January.
Easter Dawn is the story of Minnie, a wealthy young girl in 1912 on the verge of her society debut. When the man she loves discovers a dark secret that causes him to turn his back on society, Minnie must decide. Stay in her safe, glamorous world, or prove to Eric that she is capable of weathering any storm by his side?
“My favourite aspect of writing this story was immersing myself in 1912 and exploring the last days of the idealism and confidence that preceded the Great War,” Fiddelaers said.
“None of the characters are aware that the world is about to be shaken up in a way that will reverberate into the next century, and that was fun to play with.”
The stories told in this anthology are diverse in time and setting. From Fiddelaers’ idyllic pre-war autumn love story, to the battlefield of the Somme; a 1920s jewel heist in the French alps, to the skies above Texas with one of America’s first women pilots during the Second World War.
The anthology is Fiddelaers’ latest project after completing her first novel, which was shortlisted for last year’s Richel Prize for Emerging Writers.
