Tractor rollover traps man at New Gisborne

A man was injured in a tractor rollover at New Gisborne yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the property just before 3pm.
Once on scene, firefighters were confronted with a small front-end loader that had rolled onto its side trapping the man by his foot under the rear wheel.
The man, aged in his 50s, was driving the tractor across a paddock on a slight slope before it rolled onto its side. The bucket stopped it rolling further onto the fitted rollover protection structure.
Incident controller Lieutenant Mark Carter said the first priority was to secure the tractor so it didn’t cause further injury to the male and also emergency services.
“Working alongside Gisborne SES, we secured the tractor to a nearby tree by using a hand winch,” Lt Carter said. “Once secured, we deflated the rear tyre and used shovels to dig around the wheel to free the driver’s foot.”
The man was taken to hospital by road ambulance suffering minor injuries.
Police also attended the scene.
