Trailblazing Tigers

There is a real chance Lancefield Cricket Club may be able to field not one but two open-age female teams this season. Everyone’s jumping on board,” women’s coordinator Emily Consiglio said at a well-attended information session for prospective players on Thursday evening.
From a minimum age of 14 to mature age, girls and women are showing interest in the club’s trailblazing move.
“It looks like the blokes may be outnumbered this season,” quipped one of the club’s strong supporters.
Emily Consiglio played cricket at a very young age and even had a stint in Central Highlands and premier league women’s level; now she is spearheading cricket opportunities for females at Lancefield.
“You don’t have to be from Lancefield, we’ve already got girls who are keen from Romsey and Kilmore,” she said.
The club wants to provide a social atmosphere this season, recognising that some girls can play junior football and netball but don’t continue in sport in the summer months.
Junior players coordinator Mark Mouser is enthusiastic about the coming season, with the under-age boys’ teams shaping up well.
The Lancefield women’s team/s hope to play in the North West Metro social cricket fixtures on Sundays.
